Meet our newly elected Board members! Sara Jameel Le Brusq is Chief Operating Officer of New American Leaders, @newamericanld, a nonprofit dedicated to recruiting and preparing immigrants to run, win, and lead in elected office. An appreciation for the opportunities America had afforded her Syrian and Irish grandparents, who resettled in New York, was strongly reflected in her upbringing and has inspired her work in strengthening an inclusive democracy. Previously, Sara serv...ed as Vice President for Latino Victory Project, and prior to that, worked in the Democratic Participation and Governance division at the Ford Foundation. María Ignacia Simonetti is a @Fulbright Scholar and MSc in Global Affairs from @nyucga. She has collaborated on different equality, diversity, and inclusion projects, such as launching and implementing Chile’s Gender Parity Task Force in partnership with the International Development Bank and the World Economic Forum. As the Head of the Gender Departament at Chile´s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was the Lead Coordinator for the Women, SMEs and Inclusive Growth priority for #APEC Chile 2019 and was responsible for the approval of important projects such as La Serena Roadmap for Women and Inclusive Growth and for Chile’s Gender and Trade Chapters. Welcome Sara Jameel and Ignacia Simonetti! We are grateful to work with such talented group of women. #womenacrossfrontiers #womeninboardrooms See more

February is #BlackHistoryMonth in the US and Canada. In the past, during this time outlets highlight #BlackAmericans who have accomplished exceptional things. @TheAtlantic writer @ClintSmithIII makes this important point in a Twitter thread: Black History Month is a chance to remember those who have made enormous contributions to this country, but it's also an opportunity to remember that those contributions didn't just come from major figures. They also came from millions ...of Black folks whose names we'll never know. It's the stories of ordinary Black people, those still living and those who have passed, that I think of most when we reflect on this country's history. It's the story of #FrederickDouglass, but also the story of the millions of other #enslaved people whose voices we don't hear...It's essential to remember the exceptional contributions #Blackpeople have made to America, but also important to remember that Black people don't need to do anything "exceptional" to justify or legitimate their place in this country. SOUND UP!! Late last year, as the pandemic inched on, we set up hotline where #workingmoms could call in and scream, laugh, cry or vent for a solid minute. We called it The Primal Scream Line. And scream they did. Hundreds called in. They cried in frustration. They sang songs (unprintable: Jingle Bells with every word replaced by fuck). They locked themselves in closets and shouted into the phone. They complained about the STICKINESS everywhere. The mountains of l...aundry. Some wondered if they were really cut out to be parents. Today we launched The Primal Scream a project that aims to capture the frustration of working moms in the pandemic, and the lack of support. It won’t solve the problem of working and #parenting and schooling and grieving and partnering in a pandemic, but maybe it can be a little bit of catharsis. The package is live now and was out in print last Sunday. With a huge shout to our amazing scream team: @jessgrosewrites @farahlearned @melonyce @sharonimacaronii @deannadonegan @rdriana @tiffanie.graham, Dani Blum and all of our writers, experts and #MOMS! As one of caller put it: All I hear all the livelong day is ‘Mom, mom, MOM! Mom, MOMMMM, mom, MOM, mom!! MoM, mommommommom, MOMMM!! What!? Oh, nevermind.’ Via @jessicabennett NYTimes editor at large, former #nytimes gender editor. I am worried right now as school has been closed. #School to us is a safe haven especially for us as girls because we are in danger of being circumcised and also being married off early, says Zamzam Saka, a high school student studying at her parent’s house in Kenya’s Marsabit County. The closure of all schools, including some rescue centers where these girls had sought refuge after running from their families who wanted to force them to undergo #FGM or get married has tak...en the country a step back in the fight against these traumatic, painful cutting practices that have long denied the young girls opportunities to go to school. Instead, they are now at a higher risk of getting cut and married off at ages as low as 12. February 6th was #fgmzerotoleranceday2021. Read our story about #Kenyan girls facing #FGM and #earlymarriage after schools closed amid covid 19 below Dominic Kirui reports https://bit.ly/3tDN8Tj #girlsrights #womensupportingwomen #womensrights #reproductivehealth #reproductiverights #reproductovejustice #womenacrossfrontiers https://bit.ly/3tDN8Tj
