Waterloo Central School District and HR 10.05.2021

Dear Waterloo Families, Yesterday afternoon, I received a letter from Dr. Howard Zucker, the New York State Health Commissioner. I have attached that letter below. Yesterday evening, news reports indicated plans from the New York State Department of Health to revise mask requirement guidance for schools is forthcoming. As the attached letter states, the New York State Department of Health tentatively plans to release this new guidance regarding mask requirements on Monday Ju...ne 7th. At this time, no official guidance from the New York State Department of Health or the Seneca County Health Department has been issued to schools. Until such guidance or an updated executive order is issued to schools, we will continue with our current expectation that all students, staff, and visitors wear masks while in Waterloo Central School District Buildings or on Waterloo Central School District grounds. The Governor’s office has not issued guidance. What is attached is an open letter from Dr. Zucker in New York State to the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia exploring mask requirements and sharing the state’s intent. It is not actually guidance. Until the State issues the guidance, we are not able to make changes to our mask requirements. We must wait until we get actual guidance from the State, the local Department of Health, and our district physician before we change any of our current protocols, which are all listed in our Waterloo Central School District Reopening Plan. The Seneca County Superintendents met with an official from the Seneca County Health Department this afternoon. The above was confirmed that until we get guidance from New York State our mask expectations remain the same. As of now, everything stands the way it is. There is no change, only discussion of change. The good news is, there is discussion. When the District receives word the guidance regarding masks has been updated, I will let you know. Until then, please continue to wear your masks as you have this school year. Thank you very much for your anticipated cooperation with the District’s mask requirements. Sincerely, Terri Bavis Superintendent of Schools
