2nd Platoon currently on scene of a porch fire in rear of a residence in the North End of the City. Quick knockdown of the fire, keeping fire contained just to the porch area

The recent summer temperatures in upstate NY have allowed WFD to spend their time between calls in productive manners. Between firehouse maintenance, continuous training and helping other departments in the city (as seen hanging a new flag for the David Fisher Memorial in Van Rensselaer Village) we enjoy staying busy even when we’re not busy.

B platoon crews are working a house fire with exposure issues in the 300 block of Sheridan Ave in the Arbor Hill neighborhood. Bn 1 has the command and report...s heavy fire conditions U/D - command now transmitting the 2-2-2 alarm, fire in the exposure building U/D @ 1715 - crews are still attacking fire from a defensive posture, Watervliet Professional Firefighters Local 590, IAFF Local F-256 Arsenal and Troy Firefighters have been brought in on this job as well Photo credit: Eli Gill

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the annual Chief Thomas McCormack Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1st has been cancelled. The on-duty shift will be lighting the tree, however, no visitors will be allowed. We thank you for your understanding during these difficult times and look forward to seeing you all next year and at the Chief McCormack Memorial Golf Tournament in June. The Watervliet Fire Department wishes you and your families a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday season.

On August 23rd, members of the WPD and WFD were called to aid a soon-to-be mother who was giving birth inside of her vehicle. Emergency personnel quickly respon...ded to the scene and helped welcome baby Xavier into the world.
