Happy Monday everyone! Got an automatic opener on your door? Have you checked the photo eyes lately? They're the little sensors that are on the door track about 6" from the floor. A lot of times, people don't check their photo eyes or even know they have them, and they can be the cause of a lot of small annoyances, such as your door not opening/shutting all the way. Here's some tips for checking/adjusting photo eyes...... If the only way you can close your door is to hold in the button on the inside wall station, check your photo eyes first! This feature is used to override the photo eyes so the door can be closed in an emergency. Check your photo eyes every couple days and make sure they are clean, clear and aligned. They have small lights on them and should be lit up solidly, no flickering, if they are aligned properly, and most times one is green while the other is an amber/yellowish kind of color, but they can also be red in color. If one of them has a light that is flickering or completely out, try realigning them. Make small adjustments to the pivot bracket supporting one of the sensors by loosening the screws and bolts that secure it. Slightly move the bracket in and out and up and down until the LED light comes on, then tighten the screws and bolts. Check to make sure nothing stored near the garage doorway is obstructing the sensors. They are very sensitive, and even quite small things in their path can initiate the circuit breaking action. June is Garage Door Safety Month! Here are some tips to make sure you keep safe when operating your garage door.. Always check shelves or racks that are holding items in your garage. The constant vibrations from a door going up and down can cause items to wiggle and move over time. Check all little parts. Open your door and check the tracks, brackets and spring. Is everything moving smoothly? If not, it may be time to lube the door. Doors should be lubed every 4-6 months with... a light spray lube, and we recommended liberally coating the inside of the tracks and rollers. If you have an automatic opener, check your photo eyes! They're the little sensors on the tracks about 6" from the floor. Make sure they are both lit up and aligned properly. Make sure to keep this space clean and clear so the beams from the sensors stay solid. And of course, if you need any service, give us a call! Residential or commercial, we handle it all!
