World Environment Day 2021: Post #1 For World Environment Day we are sharing Dr. Jay Matenga's recent podcast interview with Forrest Inslee. As the WEA's executive Director of Missions and Evangelism, Dr. Matenga challenges us in fresh ways to care for all of God's gift of creation. As an indigenous Maori Christian from Aotearoa/New Zealand he also brings an indigenous voice and perspective to creation care. This too is a gift on World Environment Day as Dr. Matenga leads the way for an expansive dialogue with our indigenous Christian brothers and sisters about creation care. Katharine Hayhoe, the WEA’s Climate Ambassador, is speaking this Sunday at Onechurch online (Toronto time) on the gift of creation. It will be worth listening too.
The Earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those that dwell therein. Ps 24:1 On this Earth Day it is good to remember this truth and to pray and meditate on it. God intended that all people, no matter their race, ethnic background, or income dwell on a healthy patch of God’s good earth were the air is clean, the water is pure, and the soil is healthy. In other words, where God’s ecological systems are healthy, productive, and justly shared. That is the bi...blical vision of Shalom. As we care for creation, encouraged by Earth Day, lets make sure people, communities, and countries who bear the brunt of climate change, pollution, and other ecological destructionthe poor and minority communities, are neither forgotten or neglected in our vision and work. Creation care is a whole fabric of careof ecosystems, people, communities, economies, culture, the built environment, and more. Nobody can be left out, but when they are the surprise of Christianityif we are faithful, is showing up and serving whenever creation and community is broken.
Christianity Today reports on Climate Intercessors, an initiative to pray for the upcoming global climate talks in November known as COP26. The world's governments, supported by business leaders and civil society, will be making vital decisions on commitments to cut carbon emissions and how to move to a post-carbon future. This is a worthy cause and concern for prayer, which is why we support this prayer movement and ask you to join in prayer. Please also pray for Lowell Bliss who had this vision and is leading the effort of a supportive team. Thanks Dr. Hayhoe for sharing your helpful list of new books this year on climate change that are great reads, resources, and perhaps the perfect gift for that special person on your Christmas gift list. Katharine Hayhoe.#weaclimateambassador

Here’s another reason for caring for creation, to help prevent future pandemics.
Looking forward to digging into this report after its release in one day.
