And just like that, we have to remove tubing from our largest sugar bush and move to another land owner. Property has changed ownership and was unable to continue tapping there. The disadvantage of not owning your own trees. Should be able to have the new lines run and be ready by the end of November.

Seasoned wood all stacked inside for the 2021 season. Full to the roof! Now to stack the new load of green wood outside to dry for 2022. Lots of work but good dry seasoned wood make all the difference during boiling.

Line washing day. Pushing cleaning solution uphill to rinse and sanitize the lines for the summer months to help cut down on bacteria growth. The new pump did a great job pushing the large elevation change to cut down on splices.

Cleaning up. Bulk tank, collection tanks washed, and evaporator is rinsed and filled with cleaning solution. Our season came in under last years. Earlier start and earlier finish. Called it quites with sugar content so low. Just wasting firewood. We processed more sap this year, 3,815 gallons. Made a total of 48.75 gallons, including 5 gallons of bourbon syrup that is aging. These numbers put us at an average of 1.1% sugar, 78:1. From what we hear we are not... the only ones with low sugar. It turned out to be one of our best flavored syrup seasons right to the end. After a final count, we drilled 174 taps in this year with our 3/16's cdl tubing. First year of no buckets. Definitely cuts down on our labor. Time to shift gears, finish cleaning up and reload the wood room. Thanks for everyone's support and to Greg Wengert for the help during preseason prep and boiling. See more

Last boil of the 2020 maple season. 250 gallons of sap to boil today. Time to clean up. Let us know if there is anything you need and we will do our best to make a "clean" sale.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 15.08.2020

I'm being inspected this morning. Quality control says it's great still. Syrup sample, coffee, and cartoons.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 26.07.2020

Only one of our sugar bushes is running. Clear and fast! Can not believe that the syrup got lighter tonight. A beautiful medium amber and what a taste! Thought about ending this weekend but we will carry on with good runs and color like this. What better to be doing while keep your distance than making natures sweetener.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 15.07.2020

Still rolling here! Sap flow slow but enough to boil. A great tasting dark amber. Fingers and toes crossed that this freeze up resets everything for the week to help out our numbers. The funny thing is today last year was our first boil of the season! And now in 2020 we are close to ending. What a wacky year.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 05.07.2020

All this warm weather is great but without the cold nights to reset the trees, our sap production has been a little slow the last few days. Still running well in our colder sugar bush giving us enough to boil each night. Weather looks better Friday night and this weekend to kick things into action again.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 27.06.2020

Syrup darkened up today so took advantage and filled our bourbon barrel. Now it can age. Smelled so good in here from the vapors. Low sap flow today with the cool temps and breeze. Early night to go get in the house and kick back. Looks like more big runs are coming again!

Wengert's Sugar Shack 18.06.2020

Not the greastest of runs without freezing nights but it is still running! Making a really nice medium amber tonight. Should run better tomorrow.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 05.06.2020

Great run today. Sap flowed like crazy all night. Was able to get out of work early today. Gathered sap and was boiling by 12:30. 445 gallons of sap and canned up 6 gallons over a 9 hour boil. Thanks Greg for the help boiling and gathering. Time for bed and grab more sap early in the morning.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 24.05.2020

Boiling so good had to call in the reserves to help bottle and ready fire wood.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 13.05.2020

This thing is cooking today! Hot stack temp. Creekside Welding and Machine 2x6 mule kicking it in the butt!

Wengert's Sugar Shack 02.05.2020

We are boiling! 300 gallons of sap to boil.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 30.04.2020

Wengert's Sugar Shack 18.02.2020

Finally! First draw of 2020! Forgot how long it can take to concentrate the first batch.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 08.02.2020

Just over 200 gallons to boil in tonight. Cold out but boiling great.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 23.01.2020

First boil of 2020! Only 130 gallons of sap but its a start. Working out all of the first night hiccups. So far if it could it did go wrong but running smooth now. Great night to sweeten the pans so we will be ready for the next big run.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 11.01.2020

Everything is ready! Really cold start to Friday and today did not help anything. The lines are starting to thaw from the warm sun, but the cool breeze is holding the temperature back. Fingers crossed for the start of sugaring 2020 Sunday.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 26.12.2019

New equipment came today! An electric filter/bottler to help warm syrup up when we bottle when not boiling. This should really help speed things along and simplify the process.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 13.12.2019

Spicy maple bourbon salmon....thanks Paula-Mark.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 18.11.2019

Well, we are all tapped for the 2020 syrup season. Decided to tap 3 weeks earlier than past years. With the use of all 3/16's tubing, we can and not have to worry about the holes sealing over. With the temperatures up and down, we should be able to catch a run or two over the next few weeks to help out season totals. Ready to boil!

Wengert's Sugar Shack 10.11.2019

Almost time. Clean up in the sap house and tap the trees.

Wengert's Sugar Shack 05.11.2019

Was a productive weekend in the woods. Greg and I were able to repair and replace squirrel chewed sap lines and run a new line of 30 more taps. New Fed guidelines don't permit us to use our metal buckets anymore. Not to many tears shed, only had 25 in use and they were a lot of work for a small return. Trying to streamline our gathering process a little more this year to get sap to the sugar house faster. Always improvements to be made! Planning to tap around Feb 1st. Earlier than normal for us but we need the extra time and the way the weather is, the season could end early. We will post updates as the season gets closer. Thank you to all our loyal customers!

And so it comes to an end, stack is capped. Wengert's Sugar Shack has finished off the last of the syrup to boil and canned up today. Though the sap is still running, it has started to turn in taste marking the end of our season. A few really long nights, even shorter hours of sleep, made for a record setting season! Here is what the numbers "boiled down" to. We finished out the year with a record 67 gallons of syrup made from 3588 gallons of sap collected. This makes u...s have an average of 53.5 gallons of sap to 1 gallon syrup, with an average of 1.6% sugar content. Ending the season with 20.7 gallons of sap per tap, .38 gallons of syrup per tap. We are super excited with these numbers. Even more with the performance of our new evaporator with a peak of 50 gph evaporation rate. Sure beats the old 25 gph we had years past. We didn't make any really light syrup this year and the sugar sand made filtering a never ending battle but we beat it all with great tasting syrup. A huge thank you to a few special people who helped get this season tied together for us. Greg , Ray, and Chris Wengert for making an icey journey to Pa to pick up this rig, and for the fast installation. And again to Greg for help with tubbing installation on a few hand chilling days, and boiling assistance while learning the operation of the new rig. And who could for get my wife Paula for spending money on everything I thought we needed and trip after trip to get supplies, it made the final product a very enjoyable one. Thanks again to all and we look forward to serving any and all with your maple needs. See more

Wengert's Sugar Shack 26.12.2018

Boiled till just past midnight with Paula. Made about 6 gallons, and still have more sap to boil. Called it a night at 12:3, back up for work at 4am. Hoping for an easy day but I think mother nature has other plans. Still a warm 32, bet sap ran all night and will all day. Cha ching!
