In the summer of 2008, I was on top of the world. I had two wonderful children, was editor-in-chief of my hometown newspaper, was coaching high school ice hockey and had just recorded the third hole-in-one of my life (on three different golf courses, in three different decades).

This Saturday, April 4, was supposed to be Opening Day for the Westchester Warriors Youth Hockey 2020 Season but needless to say the event is postponed until further notice.... Today, I wanted to share some good news with everyone. If you are getting this email, you are one of 2,000 people that helped to build Westchester Warriors Way at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital a portal entrance to our pediatric oncology unit. When this clinically important area opened in the Fall of 2018, we knew it would play a critical role for our patients and healthcare providers but could never have imagined how much. Warriors Families, We hope that as you read this you and your families remain safe and healthy. As you all know, on Sunday, March 23 at 8:00pm, Governor Cuomo put New York State on "PAUSE" at least until April 19th with the goal of slowing the spread of COVID-19 and reducing the burden on our healthcare system. It is critical that we all do our part to slow the spread of the coronavirus.... So, what does this mean for the Warriors? The situation is fluid, and any decision we make will be impacted by state mandates, as well as our own determination of when it would be safe to welcome back our teams, friends and families who make the Warriors such a special organization. WARRIORS Updates. A few of you have questions, which hope we have answered. As for our Warriors season, the expectation is that tournaments will resume at some point in May. Time will tell. A few families asked about jersey status and if we are still having the jerseys made or refunding the cost. There is no jersey money to refund as it has all been used for its stated purpose. All money that was paid for the jerseys/shell/socks was spent to procure the gear long before the pandemic broke. All gear has been made and has already been received and is ready to go. The plan is to distribute all gear to the families the next time your team is together. Warrior swag (hats, quarter zips, tees, etc.) is available until the end of April for anyone interested. Westchester Warriors Hockey & Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital Fundraising team Face Off To Fight Pediatric Cancer! ... The Warriors/Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital program started up spring of 2015 with the goal of finding a group of kids and parents willing to dedicate their time on and off the ice to raising funds to benefit a children’s cancer research foundation. The idea was to provide our children with an understanding of how fortunate they are to be able to play the great game of hockey and put that understanding into practice by using their love of the game to raise money for other children who are less fortunate. Since the inception of our program, the kid’s success in raising money has exceeded all of our expectations. If you are a coach, manager, or parent and want to volunteer for a great cause and put together your own spring hockey team, but do not want the headache that comes with all the organization, The Westchester Warriors are glad to help. If you have an entire team (14 players and 1 goalie) or simply a group of players, the Warriors can help you with all the necessary organizational work. We often have many groups of players that need additional players to form a team, so if you only have a group of players we can help. Here is a list of all the things that the Warriors will do for your team: Conduct on-ice practices Set up tournaments Get insurance Get jerseys / socks / other apparel Provide coach for all games and practices All managerial duties and much more.
