Just a reminder that the NYS Burn Ban is in effect from March 16 - May 14. With springtime weather comes the heightened risk for wildfires here in New York. Springtime is when most wildfires occur because this is when conditions are driest. Strong winds and lack of greened-up vegetation can also contribute to the spread of wildfires. To report a forest fire, call 911 immediately. To report environmental law violations call 1-800-TIPP DEC (1-800-847-7332)

Today we share a moment of silence with our brothers and sisters in the fire service in remembrance of 21-year-old City of Watertown firefighter and LaFargeville Assistant Chief Peyton Morse who lost his life in the line of duty. We honor your service and sacrifice. https://www.wwnytv.com//peyton-morse-watertown-firefighte/

We are all trying to dig out this morning. Don't forget to check on your furnace vent during and after this heavy snowfall, and clear snow away from the vent's opening if it builds up. If you do notice a mound of snow blocking your furnace vent, clear it away by hand don't use a shovel or a snow blower, as either could cause damage to the furnace vent pipe. Anything that can block HVAC vents or the intake/exhaust pipe to your furnace or water can cause significant damage to those systems. Also, at this time, many roads are unpassable by emergency vehicles. If you need emergency assistance and are in remote areas of the district, make an effort to come to us. We will do what we can to get to you, but it may be difficult or impossible at this time. Be safe!
