A really great article. It identifies things that reduce our levels of ATP. If we think back to high school biology, that is the end result of the Krebs cycle and the basic cellular fuel that gives us energy. Things that reduce ATP levels are: Lack of sleep... Stress Lack of exercise, and Poor diet. https://www.health.harvard.edu//losing-steam-avoid-these-e
I was just discussing this very topic with a patient earlier today. It is important to exercise discernment in the information we expose ourselves to. This doesn't equate with being ignorant, but rather it requires that we limit the amount of bad or negative information we expose ourselves to on a daily basis. Constant bombardment simply isn't necessary or helpful. Selecting a few trusted sources, sure. I have heard it said that just because we have a 24 hour news cycl...e does not me we have to watch/ listen to it all day. https://elemental.medium.com//what-doomscrolling-does-to-t
This is a good article about some of the effects of stress. In these high stress times, taking mindful action to manage stress is important. Remember - exercise, spending time in nature, engaging in hobbies, eating high quality real foods. Also avoiding sugars, caffeine and other stimulants. All of these things can help.
I always knew dancing was good for us. So get up and dance to improve your balance.
If you experience difficultly sleeping here are a few stretches/meditation routines that have been found to be helpful. https://www.nytimes.com//a/exercises-for-better-sleep.html
Worth remembering the positive psychology can be helpful in difficult and stressful times. Positive psychology is not about denying difficult emotions. It’s about opening to what is happening here and now, and cultivating and savoring the good in your life, says Ron Siegel, PsyD, assistant professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School. https://www.health.harvard.edu//staying-positive-during-di
Many of the symptoms reported by some of these long haulers are not dissimilar to those experienced by chronic lyme patients.
More and more data is becoming available on "long haulers". Some individuals who contract the virus have protracted intractable lingering symptoms. We don't yet fully understand what is happening with this patient population.
Tool of the Trade - Plasters used to treat aches, pains, strains and sprains.
Not all calories are created equal. The fact is that consuming calories from highly processed foods will cause greater weight gain than the same number of calories from whole foods. I have advised for years now that if it comes in a package it isn't really food. One sure way to prove your health is to eat whole foods. One way to do this is to shop the perimeter of the supermarket. It is where you will find mostly whole foods. The interior aisles are full of highly proce...ssed, packaged non foods. Avoid those aisles. https://www.health.harvard.edu/stay/stop-counting-calories
Tools of the Trade- These would not have made the list last year. Contactless thermometers and Pulse oximeters. Keeping patients safe. #nycacupuncture #acupuncturenyc #shoplocalwestvillage #westvillageshoplocal #westvillageacupuncture # #acupuncturewestvillage
Interesting new research on the benefits or harms of intermittent fasting. Much of the research to date has been animals research. The usefulness of animal research for human application is very limited. Research on humans, both pro and con, has been criticized given the limited duration of the studies and the limited number of participants. If this is a subject of interest, best to keep abreast of the research developments in this area.
In these stressful times, consider adding acupuncture to your self care routines. It can be effective in mitigating your stress responses.
