Last week, the Pomeroy Foundation participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Bill and Sandra Pomeroy Treatment Center at Crouse Health. This state-of-the-art facility in Syracuse will carry forward the nearly six decades of vital work Crouse has upheld as the oldest hospital-based addiction treatment program in New York State. You can read more about the opening of the center in the Crouse Health Foundation’s June 2021 newsletter here https://bit.ly/3j52SM6 and find out about the new facility's inspiring healing environment in this video: https://youtu.be/iH4f9NmpnU0 #crousestrong #crousehealth #recoveryjourney

Did you know violets were among the most popular cut flowers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries? During that time, this fragrant flower was an integral part of the Hudson Valley economy in New York State. So much so that "Violet Belt" became a nickname in the region, with Rhinebeck, New York earning the title, Violet Capital of the World. By 1923, an estimated 40 million violets were being grown in Rhinebeck’s greenhouses. The newly released summer edition of New Yor...k Archives Magazine features an article about the "Violet Capital" by Pomeroy Foundation Historian & Archivist Susan Hughes. Wreaths add a nice seasonal touch at both Briggs and Sutherland cemeteries in Dutchess County, New York. Sutherland Cemetery was recently the focus of a gravestone repair and restoration effort. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured or lost their life! We have given grants for Historic Roadside Markers to so many wonderful historic buildings around New York, it would be a shame to see any of them lost or damaged by fire or other disasters. You may not have the resources for the type of documentation that the Heritage Documentation Programs, NPS does, but have you photographed your historic structure? Check out their online exhibit and learn why it's so important to create a record of both the interior and exterior. #historicpreservation #thisplacematters #nyhistory
