The Wheatley School

Over the past few weeks, SWS and the Wheatley social studies department organized Decision 2020: The Wheatley School Mock Election. Through their social studies classes, students were given an opportunity to cast their vote for President, vote in "down ballot" regional elections, and indicate which issues were most important to them through an exit poll. Each class was assigned a state in the Electoral College, and the candidates with the most votes in each class were awarded all of the electoral votes for their corresponding state. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a number of changes in our school this year, there is still plenty of time to have fun dressing up for Halloween! Last month, Temitope Oshodi (Class of 2021) received notification that he was selected for the College Board National African American Recognition program. Temitope earned this recognition because of his remarkable academic achievements and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. (He was recently one of 14 Wheatley students identified as Commended Students in the PSAT/NMSQT Competition.) A modest young man, Temitope has been an outstanding scholar throughout his years at Wheatley, earning the highest grades in some of our most challenging courses. Each year, dozens of Wheatley seniors spend countless hours completing a Senior Project. Part internship, part research paper and part presentation, the Senior Project is designed to get students focused on a career after Wheatley. Organized by Mrs. Kaufman and Mrs. McMillan, our two English 12 R teachers, the senior projects cover a wide range of topics and activities.
