What is Cub Scouts and who can join? Any youth can start the scouting program. They will join other BOYS & GIRLS in Dens according to their school grade, from Kindergarten to 5th grade (or 11yrs old). They start their scouting journey as Cubs and move onto Scouts BSA starting at age 11. Please visit this fun page for more details: https://trcscouting.org//20/02/New-Parent-Orientation.pptx The Cub Scout program and activities include things such as:... * Monthly pack gatherings / activities * Additional smaller group weekly or bi-weekly gatherings (Dens) to earn awards / learn new things * Camping / Hiking / Fishing * The Pinewood Derby * Service projects Sounds great where do we sign up? As a new pack the Whitehall Cubs will need YOUR help! Cub Scouting is a FAMILY event. It is run by volunteers, and we need every family to participate in order to make it successful. We expect each family to volunteer in some way during the year. Whether it’s helping with a fundraising event or running a den, everyone plays a part to help the pack succeed. Please fill this out to help us figure out where you may fit in: https://filestore.scouting.org//Cub/PDF/Appendix/34362.pdf How can I help? Not everyone has to be a committee member. We just need 5 to get started. Adult volunteer leaders within each local Cub Scouts Pack plan the yearly calendar. Sounds fun right? What are your favorite activities or outings? We will need lots of ideas and input. To get started we need a base: 5 committee members 1. Chartered Organization Representative: Our CO aid the American Legion and they will be assigning one to us. If you are a Legion member and are interested please let Mike Rocque know. 2. Committee Chairman: Over sees the whole pack program and keeps things running. (I will take on this role.) 3. Cubmaster: Oversees and plans the pack meetings with the help of the committee. You’ll be the one that the Cubs look up to mostly for guidanc

L.E.A.P. would like to congratulate our 19 youth participants on completing the 2020 Summer Youth Employment Program! As Washington County’s American Job Cente...r, L.E.A.P. facilitates this annual program which allows eligible youth ages 14-20 to gain valuable work experience and learn new skills while earning a paycheck. The program typically runs from late June to the end of August. However, according to L.E.A.P. Employment Counselor Rachel Thomas, who coordinates the program, the COVID 19 pandemic resulted in a delayed decision about releasing funding and a change in the timing of the program, which ran from the end of July to the end of September this year. The pandemic also resulted in many new safety measures to keep the youth participants safe, and challenged them to learn about social distancing in the workplace. There were 11 participating worksites throughout Washington County including Cambridge IGA, Washington County NY Youth Bureau, Broadway Lanes, Market 32, Historic Salem Courthouse/Community Center, Whitehall School, Whitehall Recreation Center, The Garden Barn, LLC, Greenwich School Bus garage, Union Cemetery of Sandy Hill & Fort Edward, and the L.E.A.P. Office. Julie Eagan, Director of Whitehall Recreation Center, said of a summer youth participant, Jillian is very punctual, dependable and hardworking. All of the workers we’ve had in SYEP have been real assets to our organization. Herb Perkins from Historic Salem Courthouse said, I am a veteran with the L.E.A.P. Summer program and I am always impressed with how it works. According to Traci Ross, L.E.A.P.’s Executive Director, Ms. Thomas did an incredible job coordinating the program, particularly due to the challenges she faced this year with very little advance notice and many new procedures due to the pandemic. This is a fantastic program, and our youth participants should be very proud of themselves for completing it, especially despite all the challenging circumstances! Pictured left to right is L.E.A.P. Employment Counselor and SYEP Program Coordinator Rachel Thomas, SYEP Camp Counselor Adam Shulman, and SYEP Aide/Cleaner Leeanna Barker in front of the Historic Salem Courthouse.
