Wholeview's Dr. Sarah Church was interviewed for this article in Everyday Health on resources for addiction and mental health care that are specifically tailored to the #LGBTQ community.
Researchers at the Univ. of Illinois studied changes in the brain during alcohol withdrawal, and were able to identify a particular protein that is created during withdrawal that is associated with depression. They were able to block the creation of this protein in rats which led to reductions in anhedonia. They think this may be helpful in humans to reduce continued drinking due to self-medication of depression during withdrawal. Fascinating! #alcoholism #withdrawal #depression https://bit.ly/3iWmlhY
Entrepreneurs have many competing priorities, which is why health and wellness is often neglected as a business is launching. This recent study showed that extended release naltrexone (Vivitrol) reduces drinking days and heavy drinking days per month compared with placebo. What I find fascinating is that people had greater reductions the longer they stayed on the medication. This argues for sticking with it, even if you only see a modest return the first month! #alcoholawareness #recovery #treatmentworks #vivitrol https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34033183/
It's a breath of fresh air to hear that Biden's team is focusing on research, treatment and harm reduction. We need to turn this deadly trend around. #overdoseawareness #overdoseprevention
This past weekend we lost a hero in our field, Dr. Mary Jeanne Kreek. This video honors her memory and the incredible work she did to understand opioid use disorder and the treatments for it. In addition to being a ground breaking researcher and mentor to countless students, she was a humanist who helped reduce stigma surrounding addiction. This video tells her story.
In this piece in The Doctor Weighs In, Dr. Sarah Church shares some strategies for getting through the holidays to support people in recovery. #holidays #recovery Happy holidays everyone!

At Wholeview, we recognize the connection between PTSD and increased alcohol use. This study continues to underscore the need to treat both. It's interesting to learn more about gender based brain differences that may lead to differential outcomes. https://bit.ly/31IlB6V

"It's far easier to prevent fatigue than to recover from it later." This beautifully written piece provides an interesting perspective on resilience during this difficult time.
