Happy Birthday Wilbur. . .The Man I Love!

We are saddened by the loss of one of our dearest friends: Maketa Dorothy White made her transition yesterday morning around 7:00 a.m. She was listed on our website as follows: DIRECTOR EMERITA Maketa Dorothy White (1933-2020)... Fine Arts Curator, Designer. A native of Washington, DC, for years she presented multi-faceted programs at D’Zora House and continued to consult for artists and gallery owners of all ages. Her late husband William White was a fine artist of distinction. This pic was taken in her home gallery and represents a joyful, most memorable moment; she remains. . .her indomitable spirit will live with us always.

Wilmer Jennings Gallery at Kenkeleba 219 E. Second Street, NYC, must be mentioned. How can we teach our youth about Black fine art and the genius and mastery of music (now globally called Jazz), America's indigenous musical creation?

There are so very many more. This celebrates BerthaHope Hope and others. Many female musicians touched my life like Bertha, Melba Liston, Shirley Scott . . . . This is to remember all those women whose excellence and musical mastery remains under the mainstream radar.

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Wallace Roney. . .COVID-19 is devastating. Many have been touched and recovered, and others have lost this deadly battle. Our most profound sympathy to his immediate and extended family and to all who love his music. We fondly remember his kindness and sharing during our 2015 Fundraiser; not only did he participate, but brought his nephew Kojo and other young musicians. RIP and power. . . His Music lives. . . .
