It's amazing how calm and quiet cows are when they know you will move them to fresh lush pastures ever day or two

One of my favorite things to do is to sit back, watch and listen to the cows graze.

First day of grazing. The cows are super excited and I am glad to be done feeding hay! The last few springs have been cool, even cold which means a slow start to the grazing season. Last year I started grazing mid April because we had a warm spell and the grass took off. It then turned cold thru the middle of May putting a stop to the grass growth completely. The cows quickly ate thru what was there which stunted the grass. I paid for that all summer. It went from cold to warm and dry which set the grass back further. If I'd kept the cows off of it till the middle of May the pastures would have been in much better condition with deep roots. But that wasn't the case and the pastures never totally recovered thru the dry summer. So this year I made sure to let the pastures get off to a good start
Thankful to God for some spring rains. it's been dry for the past year so as much as I've enjoyed no mud season, this is a real blessing.
