This is the second weekend Wired Gallery is featuring paintings by Carey Conaway on our One Wall exhibit. Color, Shape, and Rhythm June 19 - July 4, 2021 According to Carey Conaway, Color makes me happy. This sentiment is undeniable in the work exhibited here.... These abstract compositions infuse the order of geometric shapes with color and light. From a distance a strong sense of rhythmic pattern in each work is the dominant element but upon closer inspection we discover hand painted organic lines, and layers of color carefully applied to maximize a sense of luminous depth. Thus the ordered shapes come alive, and each detail takes on a life of its own. Within an illusion of order and control lies a universe of vibrant, often chaotic color combinations. Conaway creates her artwork using a variety of mediums, including oil paint, colored pencil, ribbon, and silk screened paper. She studied color theory at the Parsons School of Design and painting at the Woodstock School of Art. She cites by Josef Albers, Hans Hoffman, Paul Klee, and Frank Stella as her influences. After a near fatal car accident in 1996, Conaway shifted her energy to focus on making work about color. She subsequently left a business career to solely pursue her art. Her artwork has been included in regional and national exhibitions. She lives in Olivebridge.
