Great way to explain why calling your local tracking dog before grid searching increases your chance of recovery immensely Can’t wait for next season
I get a lot of people asking me about what kind of dog I have (Ladner Black Mouth Cur) and what traits make my dog the tracking dog that she is. Simple answer is focus and drive. This track was 8 hrs old (gut/liver) Genny jumped the deer about 400 yards from hit site. Here’s where the drive comes in. 1.93 miles later we had our deer. That’s a long track for a dog to stay focused and driven on. If you’re thinking of getting into tracking with a dog in NYS be prepared to crawl through or be pulled through some nasty stuff along the way. Spent a majority of this track on hands and knees in the snow but in the end it paid off for the hunter and Genny. May be one of the last tracks this year but what an awesome way to end it
This big ol’ doe was hit back 8 hrs earlier and ran about 500 yards from the hit site. She didn’t make it easy for Genny and took us through about 400 yards of thicket/thorns. Had spotty blood for first 75 yards then nothing after that as the exit hole was plugged with intestines. Another job well done for Genny
Genny made short work of this liver/gut shot. 8 hours old, 200 yard track. No blood at hit site brought us to an open field with tall grass. Genny made a hard turn into the tall cat tails and found first bed with blood. No blood after that but Genny brought us right to the deer after one creek crossing. Very proud of her progress Another happy hunter
