The Law Center respected Ruth Bader Ginsberg and will miss her superb mind. We want people to get out there and vote.
On today's Public Good radio show, we're joined by three members of the Fair Fines + Fees Coalition - Buffalo: Jalonda Hill, coordinator of the Coalition and a ...paralegal at the Western New York Law Center, Pastor George Nicholas of the Lincoln Memorial United Methodist Church and the African American Health Equity Taskforce, and Diane Elze, Board Member of the Erie County Restorative Justice Coalition and a professor of social work at UB. We discuss the Coalition's big win earlier this month--the repeal of 13 traffic fees by the Buffalo Common Council. These fees, added in 2018, were far higher than fees in other cities in NY state, were not making our communities safer, and were exacerbating problems of poverty, overpolicing, and racial injustice. With the Coalition's leadership, this issue was voted to the top spot on PPG's Community Agenda this year. Hear more from the Coalition members on today's show.

This was my first in person tabling event since March 7th. It was for the Cheektowaga Hub at the Resurection Life Church on Old Union Rd. It was for their drive thru food pantry. We counted at least 300 cars. Many of the cars had more than one person for the food pantry.
CLARO's Virtual Sessions are starting July 2nd... and will be by appointment only. See Flyer for details. Call 716-828-8432 for questions.

On June 22, 2020, Mayor Byron Brown announced Phase 1 of the Buffalo Reform Agenda, which aims to improve transparency and equity in police-community interactio...ns, and begin to address pervasive systemic racism in Buffalo. The Buffalo Police Department's use of body cameras could be improved to ensure better transparency and accountability. We've highlighted some recommendations here, based on a PPG policy brief, "Body Cameras for the Buffalo Police: Best Practices for Policy Creation" (December 2017). The #BuffaloNiagaraCommunityReinvestmentCoalition is holding a press conference to request that the City’s $8 million in COVID-19 response CDBG funds be spent on direct services for Buffalo residents.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns and the Zombies Initiative team is still hard at work! With the help of Code Enforcement, we pushed to have the bank remove this rotting shed at a property in Town of Clarence. Here are some before & after pictures:
