HELP NEEDED As many of you know, our Fire Department and Emergency Squad is 100% volunteer and our community depends on those volunteers when someone calls 911. Currently across the state we are facing a volunteer shortage and while that may not seem like "new" news, it should be headline news. What if you called 911 and no one came? This could soon be a reality and unfortunately has become one in some parts of our state. So help us help you! We are looking for people who ...are willing to help their fellow neighbor in their time of need and we will train you, no experience needed. Both our Fire Department and most recently our Emergency Squad are also offering applications for Jr. Programs starting at 16 years of age. If you have any questions on what you can do to help, or who to contact for more information, simply comment your name and we will message you as soon as possible. See more
Merry Christmas to all! May the pagers be quiet today to give all Fire and Ems First Responsers the day with family and friends. Thank You to those 911 Dispatchers, Law Enforcement, Fire and Ems personnel who must serve today to answer the call and to keep us safe.
We have been made aware of an issue in which AT&T wireless calls have been dropping, including calls to 9-1-1. Our dispatch center is unable to call AT&T number...s, including attempting to return the "abandoned" 9-1-1 calls. We don’t know the full extent, but several other 911 Centers across NYS are reporting the same issue. We did test Verizon and Sprint numbers and they are working fine. According the AT&T they are still trying to ascertain the extent of the issue.
Dear fellow Worcester Community Members and Department Members, this is an informational message only: Out of an abundance of caution the Worcester Fire Commissioners felt it necessary to temporarily suspended all non-essential functions at our station. This is due to the increasing number of Positive CoVid cases in our area. They feel it necessary to help in every way they can to keep the members from contracting the Virus so that we can all be ready to answer the call when we are requested in an emergency. This will only be temporary but will remain in effect for as long as they feel it necessary. We also would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!
Come and Get it....
Help yourself, your neighbors, and us - please shovel your hydrant. Fire doubles in size every 30 seconds, it takes approximately three minutes to shovel out a hydrant when we find it and make the connection. How big will the fire get.....
Today we held our Annual Driver training which focuses on Truck familiarization and safe driving practices.
Important information that you need to know and save your family......
The Worcester Fire Department is hosting its Annual Election Day Spaghetti Supper as planned but with some changes. Due to the restrictions placed on indoor dinning, we are Only offering Take out style this year. The options will remain the same Pasta with Meatballs or Sausage or just Sauce and Pasta, salad and bread. We will have a flyer out soon and we will update this Post as things get closer and as to changes, if any. We really hope to see you on November the 3rd from 4-7 pm at the Worcester Fire House.
One of our ambulances struck an owl overnight. The crew was transporting a patient at the time. What I was not aware of was the story which was relayed to me a ...short time ago by the Paramedic on the crew: "Hey, figured I’d share a very happy moment for me it’s not every day you get to save a life let alone an animal’s life! While my partner was driving, he had an owl hit the grill of our ambulance. We didn’t think anything of it as it was a small animal and wouldn’t likely cause much of any damage. After dropping off our patient we went out to check the damage. Little did we know we had carried that beautiful owl with its dinner it had just caught with us to Bassett and it was injured! I contacted dispatch to find someone to come get it because I wasn’t just going to let it die when we could save this beautiful creature! We placed the owl in a box for the deputy sheriff who was going to help the creature for the night and bring him to a friend that will rehab him! I am so thankful we could save its life even if it was only a small, wonderful animal!" Apparently, the owl was both shocked and also to some degree, stuck in the grill. The deputy was from the Otsego County Sheriff’s office and was apparently very happy to assist. We always hear about the bad and are surrounded by suffering so much. To have been able to help this animal was a very uplifting experience for the crew. Thank you to Paramedic Cassandra Patrick and EMT Jeremy Bostiwck for caring for all creatures great and small!
Always have and practice your escape plan!!! Stay safe.
