WE OFTEN WARN of gum disease and the detrimental effects it has on the mouth and body, but there are a lot of myths out there, so we’re here to set the record straight! We believe the more educated our patients are about dental health issues, the better they’ll be able to prevent them! Myth #1: Bleeding Gums Are Normal The truth is that bleeding gums are the first sign of gum disease. Gums swell, bleed, and become tender when plaque accumulates around the gumline. Keep yo...ur child’s gums healthy by encouraging daily brushing and flossing to remove plaque and food debris. Myth #2: Only Adults Can Get Gum Disease While the majority of people with gum disease are adults, children are vulnerable too, particularly if they are genetically predisposed or have conditions like diabetes or autoimmune disorders. Good brushing and flossing and regular dental visits can help! Myth #3: Gum Disease Is Irreversible Gum disease is absolutely reversible in its earliest stage: gingivitis. The earlier it’s caught, the better. In most cases, good oral hygiene habits can rid your child of gingivitis and stop gum disease in its tracks.

BUILDING GOOD ORAL HEALTH and hygiene habits in our kids at an early age is a great way to ensure that their teeth stay healthy and strong for life. Here are some great habits to teach: 1. Brushing their teeth twice a day, using a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. 2. Flossing daily. If regular flossing doesn’t work for your kiddos, give floss picks or a water flosser a try!... 3. Cleaning their tongues. Bacteria builds up there just like on teeth, and it’s a major source of bad breath. We recommend picking up a tongue-scraper if you don’t already have one. When teaching these habits, it’s crucial to be consistent and to set a good example. Our kids like to imitate what we do to, and consistency will show that good oral hygiene is simply a normal part of the day.
