One of our largest hauls yet! From the waterfront to the sculpture park to the entire backroad of the Apex building, volunteers took charge this past Saturday against pollution. We pulled out plastic bottles, straws, styrofoam and other items that otherwise could end up in the River. Thank you to everyone who helped, including Juan, who despite losing his job and home, pitched in to protect the natural beauty of the place! Last Saturday we broke new ground - planting wildflower seedlings among the waterfront! They join the butterfly milkweed we planted earlier. The soil quality makes it a little challenging, but hopefully they will grow! In any event, we aim to plant more this weekend at our weekly cleanups: 7 am Beczak Center and 9 am Apex/Sculpture Park!

This Saturday 7/18 our Apex/Sculpture Park volunteer crew will be starting early at 7 am to assist Friends of Beczak at Habirshaw Park on the Hudson in cleanup efforts and to learn from restoration botanist, Sven Hoeger, about how we can conserve the natural Hudson River environment. Join us at 7 am at Habirshaw Park (35 Alexander St - about 10 minutes walk from Apex) - and there might even be free coffee and muffins! Too early? Join our regular cleanup efforts at 9 am by the Domino Sugar Factory, southernmost corner of the Yonkers Waterfront!

The birds were chirping and the rain stayed away as we cleaned up along the waterfront this morning from Apex to Beczak parks!
