What is more quintessentially New York than the creativity, drama, artistry, and entertainment of Broadway? With the pandemic shuttering theaters, this long intermission has taken a toll on all of us, but especially all the actors, musicians, stage crews, and theater workers, who bring this art to life. To pay tribute to all the heroes who normally bring so much life and joy to New York City, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City collaborated with the University Glee Club of New York City to record our own version of Brotherhood of Man, from Broadway’s HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. #YPCHeroes #InTheKeyofLove Find all the HEROES tracks at https://ypc.org/event/virtual-album-release-heroes/

The newest release from HEROES virtual album offers a heartfelt shout-out to all the teachers who give so much in their in-person and virtual classrooms. Recorded this summer by the young, hopeful public school students from YPC’s School Choruses Program, this track proves that we can still continue to make music and look ahead to tomorrow to a time when we will be able to sing together in person, once again. #YPCHeroes #InTheKeyofLove Find all the Heroes tracks at https://ypc.org/heroes-virtual-album/

YPC had the honor of performing at the dedication of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in 2014. We share this moment because on this day, and every day, our hope for a better world persists and we vow to #neverforget.

It’s back-to-school time, and we’re releasing the latest track from our HEROES album: Three Little Birds. Though class looks a lot different for the children of YPC this year, they joined forces to record Three Little Birds and remind us that this school year may be a new kind of challenge, but through it all, music will continue to prevail, heal, and carry us through each moment, keeping us connected no matter where we’re learning. #YPCHeroes #InTheKeyofLove Find all the HEROES tracks at https://ypc.org/heroes-virtual-album/

YPC denounces the ongoing acts of hate and racism throughout our country that are disproportionately affecting the lives of our Black and Brown children. The latest tragic shooting of Jacob Blake and the subsequent fatal shootings of people protesting the violent incident impacts all of us. We stand with people across the country calling for equity and justice for all.

Dear YPC community, At the Young People's Chorus of New York City, we have been unwavering in our mission of artistic excellence, diversity, and education. Indeed it is the foundation of our mission statement. As a children's organization, we are committed to meeting the needs of all of our choristers, no matter their background. We are grieving over the recent incidents and recurring violence towards the black and brown community. We are witnessing first-hand that our childr...en are scared, distraught, and overwhelmingly sad. We acknowledge that inequality and racism is a fact in our society and understand the deep anger over systemic barriers that make the journey impossible for so many. Leveling the playing field and promoting tolerance and equality is at the heart of the YPC. That said, we pledge to do more; to keep a safe space for children where they can express themselves and be heard. To work harder and more fervently. To hold hands with our children and to listen more intently to the voices of the families in our communities that are underrepresented and to make sure that as they grow they can live in a just and fair world. Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2nd, in conjunction with the greater music industry and community, YPC will observe #TheShowMustBePaused. In the morning, our staff will gather to discuss, share, and listen to one another, then take the remainder of the day to collectively reflect on how we can best continue to care for our YPC community and what we, as an organization, can do to continue to put action towards change. We launched our Heroes virtual album on Thursday, May 14, with the intent to release a new song every Thursday, and we have put that endeavor on pause as of last Thursday until further notice out of respect for current events. Last week, we announced our Virtual Spring Concert would take place next Thursday, June 11th. Today, we would like to share with you that we have made the decision to postpone this event until further notice. Taking a moment to pause and reflect in these ways and more feels right for our organization in this moment. We will continue to bring our young people together through music as our daily programming continues, reaching our 600 children in our performance and community programs on a regular basis through our virtual rehearsals. At YPC, we are ultimately and always committed to learning; learning about ourselves, and most importantly, learning about others. We are committed to making each day better than the one that came before, and we reaffirm that we will continue to strive for a better world with you. Francisco J.
