George Zouvelos

On June 10th, 1967, Spencer Tracy, died from a heart attack. Tracy was nominated for 9 Oscars. In 1935, he joined MGM, in 1937 & 1938 he won consecutive Oscars ...and by the 1940s, Tracy was one of the studio's top stars. In 1942, he starred with Katherine Hepburn, which led to 9 more movies from the 2, over 25 years. During filming, Tracy began a lifelong brother-sister relationship with Hepburn. Tracy never divorced his wife, Louise Tracy, and he and Hepburn did not live together, until Tracy’s final years of life, when they shared a cottage on director George Cukor's estate. Cukor was replaced on Gone With the Wind, because Clark Gable refused to work for a gay man. Tracy left MGM in 1955. In 1999, AFI ranked Tracy as the 9th greatest male star of Classic Hollywood. His adult life of alcoholism, smoking cigarettes, taking pills and being overweight left him in poor health. On July 21, 1963, Tracy was hospitalized. From that point on, Hepburn moved into his place. On the morning of his death, Tracy went to make himself tea. Hepburn followed him to the kitchen, when she found him dead. Screenwriter and author Larry Kramer said some big movie stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, including Hepburn and Tracy, were gay, and Hepburn and Tracy were publicly paired together, by the movie studio.
