Now these are stories we love to hear during these most difficult times... These two ladies spent their summers at Camp Nahar on Schroon Lake during their child hood. They had not seen each other in over 78 years. They recently reunited, how sweet is this?

It is with very heavy hearts that the Board of Directors of the Schroon-North Hudson Historical Society announces that the Museum will be closed until further notice. As the 2020 summer season approaches, there are many concerns regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic and how it will effect the safety of all. As a board, we have struggled with this decision, but made it due to recommendations from state and local officials, combined with the fact that a significant portion ...of our volunteers and guest are seniors, and we have limited space at the museum to guarantee everyone can stay six feet apart. Even though this is a tough decision, we feel it is in the best interest of both our senior volunteers and our visitors. We will reopen when we are told it is safe for everyone. To all our members, we thank you for your continued support. Over the next few weeks, we are hoping to provide the public with several historical blogs regarding the history of the Schroon Lake-North Hudson Region. Once completed, these blogs will be posted to our website, and shared with everyone via our Facebook page. We hope these will help provide some fun reading for the next few months. In the mean time, we will also continue to develop the exhibits we had planned for 2020, such as the Schroon Lake Fire Department's 100th Anniversary Exhibit, just think how awesome it will be in 2021. In addition, don't forget to work on those costumes for our "Roaring 20's Tea to be held in the Summer of 2021. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us through our website at www.schroon-northhudsonhistoricalsociety.org

The Spanish flu in 1918 infected around 500 million people, about one-third of the world's population. Estimates as to how many infected people died vary greatly, but the Spanish flu is regardless considered to be one of the deadliest pandemics in history. The Schroon-North Hudson Historical Society President; Loris Clark is working on an article regarding The Spanish Flu Pandemic and how it affected families in the Schroon-North Hudson Region in 1918. She is requesting that if anyone that was raised in this region, and had a relative that survived the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 to please email her with names and any information you may have. You can reach her via email @ [email protected]

Hi, I am going through old photos. On the right is my great great Uncle Carl Krieger who was a chef. I think this was taken in the 1940s/50s and from the sign, ...possibly in Schroon Lake. Any idea what the occasion was, or what the letters on the jacket of the man in the center stand for (I guess the SL is Schroon Lake). Thanks! See more
