A Letter from our Mayor: From April 6th: I have emailed some of you prior, but not all of you, recently about the Census. ... You need to know that your participation in the County has been alarmingly low, compared to the rest of the state. You all are being significantly undercounted and under-represented. Is it possible that we can discuss (either by phone or email) about how you can help get those numbers up (Facebook and website posts, email blasts, a discussion in your next meeting, etc.)? Over the next 10 years, the 2020 Census data determines the annual allocation of $675 billion in federal funding that can directly affect the villages of Sullivan County. From April 17th: Even more disappointing, Census self response numbers for all of your villages are woeful. There are some villages with less than a 10% self response rate. I am a New York resident, so I too am living in this world of pandemic craziness. Sullivan County is ranked 61 out of 62 counties in New York. Woodridge is ranked 586 out of 597 cities in New York. Jeffersonville is ranked 582 out of 597 cities in New York. There isn't one of our villages in the top half of the cities in New York. When services in our state are lacking, now might be the time to start considering that it's partly due to being undercounted and under-represented. Only 10 minutes of your time affects the next 10 years of Federal funding. YOU CAN FILL THE CENSUS OUT ONLINE AT: 2020census.gov Your Attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you, William E. Thony, Mayor
