Greetings USACAPOC(A)! Each November brings the observance of the rich history of service in defense of the Nation by those American men and women who secured t...he freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution. Originally a solemn reminder of the end of World War I, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918 was the date the Allies signed the armistice that put an end to the Great War. Over time, as new conflicts sprang up, Armistice Day became Veterans Day. We should all be proud to take this day to reflect and thank America’s veterans for what they have done for the Nation. We know their service was essential to our Nation’s well-being, and we appreciate the sacrifices they made, as well as those sacrifices our Soldiers continue to make. While Veterans Day this year will be in the middle of the work week, leading to a shorter observance, it is just as important to remember to exercise caution and emphasize safety. As through most of 2020, COVID-19 is the most substantial current threat to the readiness and health of our force. While all should take this time to spend with family and enjoy the short holiday, ensure that you adhere to unit, State and DOD guidance for mitigating the danger of COVID-19. I urge you to celebrate at home, but if you have to venture out, practice proper hygiene and social distancing, wear a protective face covering, and stay away from social gatherings. The mission we execute here at USACAPOC(A) is essential to our Nation’s security, and safety is critical to our fellow Soldiers, our Families, and our readiness to carry out that mission. Because of the pandemic and the effect it has had on our lives, many of our Soldiers have been left feeling separated and remote from their leaders and fellow Soldiers, or have been put in tough financial straits because of the economy. Use the buddy system-in this organization we have to take care of each other. If you know someone who needs help, do the right thing and reach out using ACE, Ask, Care, and Escort. If you are having thoughts of self-harm or need to talk to someone, contact your support chain right away. We are a Family, and losing one Soldier or Family member to suicide is too many-intervene to make a difference. I thank each and every one of you for your enthusiasm, your professionalism, your hard work, and the sacrifices made in service to your Country every day.
