Exquisite 19th century scrapbook of artfully arranged seaweed specimens. Seaweed collecting was a sub category of scrapbooking and a popular activity for women during the Victorian era. It was considered a wholesome way for women to engage with the outdoors. https://www.argosybooks.com//b/297818/anonymous/sea-mosses

Thank you Manhattan Sideways for featuring Argosy on your podcast! "In this episode, Ellie speaks with the three sisters Judith Lowry, Naomi Hample, and Adina Cohen behind the Argosy Bookstore. They discuss Argosy's foundation in their father's deep love of books, and tell many stories about their adventures in the business all while laying bare the sisterly elasticity that defines the rubber band of their relationship to each other."

Just added to our website! This magnificent contemporary Dutch account of the Mississippi Land bubble. A renowned monument for the speculative mania of 1720, this book constitutes a collection of mostly satirical plates on the operations of John Law in France and the South Sea Bubble in England, together with the text of the charters of speculative companies in Holland and a number of satyrical plays and comedies published during the bubble. https://www.argosybooks.com//het-groote-tafereel-der-dwaas

Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) was an engineer, physician and a botanist based in Paris, France. He also served as the president of the "Académie des Sciences". His constant desire for experimentation and curiosity about how things worked enabled him to write on topics such as agriculture, metallurgy, meteorology, boat-building, sylviculture, etc. His contributions to botanical and horticultural illustration have left a particularly lasting impression. These plat...es are stipple engravings with hand coloring from "Traité des Arbres Fruitiers", an illustrated study on fruit trees published in 1768. This publication was his most ambitious work. In addition to these engravings, which are currently available on our website, we also have the complete volumes in our store. Call or email our gallery for more information. https://rb.gy/1hzmp2

"These stories burn like a house afire. They sing as well as sear; and what they have to say is as startling as a race riot." Happy birthday, Richard Wright. https://www.argosybooks.com//r/framed-inscribed-photograph https://www.argosybooks.com//richard-w/uncle-toms-children

Unusual folding map of Paris, on the site of Place de Trocadero in the 16th arrondissement, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. It is also the name of the 1878 palace which was demolished in 1937 to make way for the Palais de Chaillot. The original is in the French archives and was made in 1869. The Palace of the King of Rome is the designation of two separate palaces intended for the use of the King of Rome, Napoleon II, son of Emperor Napoleon; an immense palace designed by the emperor in Paris on the hill of Chaillot which was never built. Published by the Paris Chamber of Commerce in 1881. https://www.argosybooks.com//plan-de-la-place-du-roi-de-ro
