This Saturday, 10/24 at 4pm poet and musician Lee Ranaldo, a founding member of Sonic Youth, will collaborate with photographer and multi-media artist Leah Singer on a multimedia performance piece involving sound, words and photographic projections. The two have worked together since 1991 performing work that explores how sound and image interact. We are so excited for Saturday! Join dancer Cori Kresge at 10:00am EST for a 45 minute dance class for the whole family, based on the technique and choreography of the revolutionary choreographer Merce Cunningham. Follow a fun and easy dance warm-up, create unique and active body shapes, balances, rhythms, and jumps. Compose your own movement sequence through chance procedures and rolling dice. Suitable for ages 4+ Cori is a dancer, collaborator, writer, and teacher who has... brought her brilliance and joy to Church Street School students for several years. Kresge has been a member of the Merce Cunningham Repertory Understudy Group, functioning as a living archive for Cunningham works. In 2016 Kresge staged Cunningham's Field Dances on students of CNDC, Angers, France. She has also been a member of José Navas/Compagnie Flak, and Stephen Petronio Company. Beloved CSSMA Music Faculty member Abby Payne is joining our Fall Festival performance line-up THIS Saturday October 10th from 2:00pm-3:00pm EST! You will be treated to a live streamed solo vocal performance of her of Abby’s insightful and poetic original songs. An audience Q&A will follow the performance! Abby has been teaching voice and piano at CSSMA for over a decade. Not only does she teach private students but she also leads our free adult chorus program. She has been a... performer, singer/songwriter, and educator in New York City for many years. Abby also produced, created, and starred in several music videos and is a founding member of the Round Table, a female artist collective that seeks to create more community and opportunities for women. Super talented CSSMA faculty member Michael Eaton will be performing at the Fall Festival this Saturday at 2pm. Michael, along with his quartet Individuation, will be performing a 50 minute set that explores and combines world rhythms, and free improvisation with modern jazz. A Q&A will follow the performance! DM us if you have any questions! Michael is a NYC based saxophonist, composer, and educator. His professional career to date has spanned a variety of idioms, encompas...sing jazz, free improvised music, soul, rock, western classical, funk, reggae, brass bands, and beyond. He embraces a progressive and holistic vision of jazz, cognizant of its rich historical origins and development, but reaches for a personal outlook with an eye towards future possibilities.
