I don't generally post our work as Dog Control Officers for the Town of Carmel on this page, but in 16 1/2 years of being Dog Control, this has never happened.
A call from a concerned homeowner about noise she was hearing in her wood burning stove flue led to the removal of this beautiful Bluebird (Our official state bird). Happy to say all was well and the bird was released
Tonight's adventure- removing a hawk from an indoor riding ring in North Salem
This evening we received a call from a gentleman in Cortlandt Manor that had been mowing his lawn, scared a woodchuck, the woodchuck ran and got his head stuck in a chain link fence. We were able to successfully extract him from the fence with no injuries. He was not very grateful
Took this beauty out of a house in Ossining
Over the weekend we got a call from some very lovely ladies that there was an opossum that had been hit by a car, but there were surviving babies. Went there to find them directing traffic around the body of the opossum, and all but one of the surviving babies had been placed in a box. I removed the last baby from the mom. If these kind caring people hadn't stopped, all if these cuties would have died. They are now with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and doing very well! First picture is right after I got them, second is them learning to eat on their own at the rehabilitators.
We got a call from a homeowner that she had an unknown visitor(s) in her attic. After speaking with her for a few minutes about what she was hearing, we thought it was raccoons. We asked her to record the noises she was hearing, and sure enough it was raccoon babies. The Mom had ripped a hole in the back side of the chimney to gain access into the attic. We set a trap on the roof for Mom, caught her, then went in the attic to get the babies. End result, Mom was reunited with her 5 babies, and the homeowner was very happy to have them removed, and have the hole patched up, the cedar siding replaced and painted.
Some good Samaritans- Jason and Kerri Calabrese- found an owl in the road, thought it was injured and moved it off the road. They called Carmel PD, who in turn called us. It wasn't where they left it, but we could hear an adult and a young one. After some exploring, we found a fledgling great horned owl. After determining that it had no injuries, we left it in the woods for the parents to care for.
Babies! These little guys were in an attic in Putnam Valley. We trapped the Mom, and they are all together now.
Update on the red tailed hawk. He is emaciated but nothing is broken. He is being fed and cared for, and hopefully will be able to be released soon.
Yesterday we set a trap for Mama Bear, missing in Verplank. Tonight we caught her.
We received a call today for this red tailed hawk sitting on the side of the road. Brewster animal hospital graciously took him in, we're hoping he can be treated and released. I'll update this post when I have more info.
Happy to say the hawk from yesterday was able to be released this morning!Happy to say the hawk from yesterday was able to be released this morning!
