Another satisfied customer! Yesterday was amazing. Really. I had so much energy the whole day. I was active and busy and feeling great. Even my boyfriend said what happened to you at acupuncture? Not sure what it was and if we can recreate it. Lol. But thank you so much for all you do for me.

2020 was a very trying year. Globally we saw hardships of all varietyeconomic, social, mental/ emotional, familial, etc. I treated patients all year (minus the 10 weeks the state wouldn’t let me practice at the peak of lock down) for two things primarily: stress induced complaints related to the pandemic and post viral sequelae of COVID-19. I had been following data on the virus since November 2019 thanks to colleagues that live and work in Wuhan, China. I told people before...Continue reading

Winter Solstice: Happy Winter! On November 7th, we entered into Winter on the Chinese calendar. Chinese medicine, as an outgrowth of mankind's place among the elements, observes solar and lunar cycles in correlation to nature. Ancient scientists added many astronomical and seasonal factors, so the timing of natural phenomena such as the moon phase and tides could be calculated based on this calendar. To strive for optimal health, we must learn to emulate and live in harmo...ny with our environment. Winter is the best time to practice being Yin, as nature is at its most Yin during winter. Plants stop blooming, the foliage falls and animals go into hibernation until Spring. Meditation, Qigong and restorative Yoga practice help promote rest and relaxation, bringing us back to our Yin nature. Sleep is ultimately the most Yin thing we do and in Winter we must make efforts to rest and recuperate. Pushing ourselves when already exhausted, staying up late, leaning on caffeine or adrenaline to get through the day, excess consumption of sugar and alcohol, over exercising and otherwise running on our Yang all day long creates deficiency, weakness and ultimately breeds illness. Severe winter colds and influenza typically manifest when we have ignored the importance of living in harmony with nature all year long. For those who dutifully performed their self-work during summer and autumn, you will have far less impure Qi to expel this winter. We must protect the Yang and keep the body warm during Winter, dressing appropriately for the weather and staying bundled when outside. This is especially important for pregnant women, during a woman’s menstrual cycle, seniors and those of frail health. Similarly, we should avoid cold and raw food and beverages in Winter. Iced drinks, raw vegetables, chilled or frozen foods should be replaced with warm, nourishing and hearty meals instead. Soups, stews and hot tea are the best choice for the season. Eating these warm and nourishing foods help the body restore vitality and enter into next Spring with renewed vigor. We regularly make organic stews, chili, soups and various broths and stocks in my house during the winter. Here’s a recipe for bone broth if you’ve never made it before or would like some new ideas. https://s3.amazonaws.com//mbm-acupunctur/docs/BoneSoup.pdf In order to bring you the best care possible in 2021, the office will be closed until Sunday, 10-Jan ‘21. *New Office Location!* It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce our new location. What others think of you is none of your business. Happiness extends from accepting yourself and extending compassion first and foremost inwards! You can be the most charitable and giving person in the world but if you deride and talk down to yourself, you will never be at peace.

Within the astrology of Chinese medicine, known as "stems and branches", human beings are considered to be microcosms of the universe. We are subject to the same cycles, and influences that occur in nature. Autumn is known as the season of the harvest, signaling that it is time to prepare for the winter ahead. With Fall comes a sense of gathering and stocking up, mingled with a sense of loss as the light begins to fade and the air chills. It is a time to eliminate what is un...necessary and become aware of what is essential to carry forward with us into winter and beyond. The organ system that shares the power of this season is the Lung. Corresponding to the temperament of Autumn, the Lung pulls in and refines the Qi, sending it downward to nourish our roots. Since Autumn is a dry season, we need to protect ourselves from cold air evaporation of moisture from our skin. Moistening, softening, and nurturing foods for this time include hearty soups and stews, radishes, sea vegetables, root vegetables (potatoes, turnips, carrots, beets and parsnips), pumpkin, squash and seasonal fruits such as pears, apples and figs. In this season when Yin grows and Yang begins to recede, Qi and Blood must be conserved and restrained from being pushed outward excessively. Exercise should be moderated, balancing active physical training with more quiescent and meditative practices. In this way, the Liver and tendons will be nourished and the spirit will be nurtured. The sour taste through its astringing action helps to restrain the outward movement of Qi and Blood and balance the dynamic of the Liver and Lung Qi. The Lung is also responsible for our capacity to distinguish what is right and just. It is the Lung that nourishes our capacity to be methodical, and disciplined, without becoming obsessive. Autumn reminds us that we reap what we have sown and that all of our actions have consequences. The clarity that comes with Autumn enables us to distinguish not only between the things that contribute to our own well being, but also to the benefit of others. Thusly, Autumn serves to remind us that we live in an interdependent world and the energy we serve and project onto those around us, will be returned in kind. For those individuals that find it difficult to slow down and prepare for the Autumn harvest, or those who simply pushed themselves too hard this year and are suffering the result, now is the time to schedule an appointment. Together, we will find your balance, symmetry and wellness once again...
