Mayor Jim Avena and Trustee Rita DiLucia are spreading the word about Growing Love’s Spring 2021 Garden Opening and Artisan Market, which will be held on Sunday, May 2 in the Manorhaven Nature Preserve. The Garden Opening will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Makers Market will last from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain date Sunday, May 16) Mayor Avena and Trustee DiLucia are encouraging all members of the public to attend this special event. The whole Village appreciates the bea...uty and sense of community fostered by the Growing Love Community Garden, Mayor Avena said. We are so pleased that the Garden is officially opening up again for the spring season, and we hope that residents will join us for a wonderful, family-friendly event. The Garden Opening will feature live music by Bach 2 Rock and Andy Arrowana, as well as painting, crafts and a book exchange in the Children’s Garden. In addition to activities in the Garden, Growing Love will also host an open-air Artisan Market with more than 30 vendors and food trucks in the Village’s Nature Preserve parking lot. The entrance to the Community Garden is located either through a gate in Lady of Fatima’s parking lot (40 Manorhaven Blvd) or the Nature Preserve (between 80 Manorhaven Blvd and the entrance to Manorhaven Beach Park). We could all use a positive community event that will support local businesses and bring people together outdoors in a safe way to grow together as a Village. Bring your kids and tell your neighbors! said Trustee Rita DiLucia. Visit growinglovepw.com for more information.

Please note that spring parking rules are in effect beginning April 1. Be sure to check alternate side parking signs for street sweeping on your streets to avoid risking a ticket. Thank you and Happy Spring!

Concerns have been raised about the potential development of 1 Channel Drive, Port Washington, a property located in the Village of Manorhaven on the northeast corner of Channel Drive and Shore Road, which formerly held the Innovative Technology business. Mayor Avena has met with the property developer, but to date, no application for a building permit has been filed with the Village. Any such filing must be reviewed for compliance with the Village's zoning code, and the project would require variances from the Village's Board of Zoning Appeals which would conduct a public hearing on the matter. Please stay tuned for further developments.

The Village is so grateful to Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton for securing County funding to replace our pump station's old emergency generator. Please read the patch.com article for the details.

The Village has issued 60 parking fines so far today to residents who did not adhere to snow emergency alternate side parking regulations. Parking on the wrong side of the street has made it impossible for our plows to properly clear the roads. If everyone had followed the proper rules, residents would now easily be able to move to a clear even side of the street. Let's try to get cars to the even sides of the street so plows can clear the odd sides. We all need to work together to be able to allow winter alternate side parking to continue only during snow emergencies. Thank you

Plowing Update: The middle lane of all streets in the Village have been plowed. The middle lanes were plowed first in case someone needed to leave in an emergency or for fire/EMS access. Our staff is now working on plowing the even sides of the street so please wait until that side of your street has been plowed before moving your car. ... Unfortunately, many residents did not adhere to the alternate side rules during a snow emergency, which is making it very difficult for our staff to clear the even sides of streets. This is also causing a potentially dangerous situation if fire or EMS trucks need to drive down a street. It was because all residents adhered to alternate side during snow emergency regulations during our pilot program several years ago that the Village was able to abolish alternate side parking regulations other than during snow emergencies. Please stress this to neighbors who haven't adhered to the regulations. Otherwise, the Fire Dept may insist that we revert back to alternate side parking the entire winter for safety reasons.

A Message From Mayor Jim Avena I greatly appreciate the residents of Manorhaven for their support over the past four years and for voting to re-elect me in yesterday’s Village election. Trustees DiLucia, Popeleski, von Roeschlaub and I welcome newly elected Trustee Harry Farina. We look forward to working together as a unified board to continue to improve quality of life, financial health, protect our waterfront and enhance the natural beauty we are so lucky to enjoy in our l...ovely Village on Manhasset Bay. We have many great plans to continue to do the great work we started four years ago and look forward to sharing details about them with residents as the projects begin. As a military veteran, Mayor Jim Avena was honored to be invited by the Port Washington Fire Department to attend this morning’s memorial ceremony honoring the fallen of 9/11 at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, which is held every year rain or shine. It is a great honor for Mayor Avena to participate in any memorial to the thousands of people who lost their lives on that fateful day, whether first responders or people who were in and around the World Trade Center that morning. Aside... from proudly serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Jim Avena was a founder of the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund that assists families of officers killed in the line of duty. He also attended nearly 50 memorial services for employees he had worked closely with while President of Cantor Fitzgerald, a tenant of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. The firm lost over 600 employees in the terrorist attack. God bless America.

Confirming a message from earlier today and providing a more detailed explanation as to why the Village of Manorhaven's Annual 9/11 memorial and remembrance ceremony will not be held as scheduled, the ceremony has been canceled because tomorrow morning's weather forecast is uncertain. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, especially to avoid inconveniencing elected officials, invited guests, community groups, and Village residents at the last minute, it was decided to ca...ncel the event. Unfortunately, the ceremony cannot be moved indoors this year due to COVID-19 concerns. We are extremely grateful to the Port Washington Fire Department, who will be honoring the fallen of 9/11 at the Nassau Knolls Cemetery, 500 Port Washington Blvd., in a ceremony beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, rain or shine. As we will not be able to physically come together as a Village community to commemorate 9/11 this year, we ask that everyone take a moment to reflect privately on the tremendous loss our nation and the Port Washington community experienced that day. Again, we apologize and thank the community for their understanding. Thank you for your understanding. Board of Trustees

9/11 Ceremony Cancelled - Mayor Avena has decided that since the weather forecast for tomorrow is poor, and the fact that we can’t socially distance attendees as we would like indoors, he is cancelling the 9/11 event. We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment and look forward to next year’s 20th anniversary event. #GodBlessTheFallen
